This necklace is named after the daughter of one of our grinding artisans. Sena is a beautiful junior higher. She has been learning the violin and her first recital was scheduled for a week after the tsunami. Her home, and violin, were washed away. One year later, a volunteer serving in the area started teaching her the violin, and the group provided her with the instrument. She had her first recital in our Nozomi House. It was lovely! Now there are three other children of Nozomi staff studying violin at the Nozomi house after school. We are proud of Sena and the many other children who are finding ways to rebuild their lives. .

We first met Ayaka at a Hawaiian luau party put on by a great team of volunteers from Hawaii. She was in preschool and oohhh so shy and cute! Ayaka came with her parents, and her mom shortly after that time began working at Nozomi Project. Despite many challenges, we admire the resilience of Ayaka, her parents, and so many people we have the privilege of knowing in Ishinomaki.
